Hello i just started playing magic and I got a card called Trapfinder’s Trick and i didn’t quite get what the ability meant if someone can explain to me as well as what is a trap card.

The card ability was: Target player reveals his or her hand and discards all Trap Cards.

When you play a card you choose a target player. That play shows his hand to everyone playing and then he must discard any cards that say say “Instant — Trap” example would be here: Loading Image...

Nicely done, but it is usually considered to be poor judgement (and a violation of the Magician’s Code) to reveal in public how to do a trick that is considered ‘commercial’- that is, people are still selling the instructions for.

One can argue that information should be free, but you did not (to the best of my knowledge) invent this trick.

yeah i remember there was a show about magic and this guy was doing a card trick… and he pulled out like 5 cards and showed it to the camera and told us to think of one of the cards out of the 5 and then he will reveal which card you were thinking about when the show comes back from commercial… then when the show comes back on he totally does know what card i was thinking about… how did he do that?

Here are two links to get you started with more card magic :

http://somf.ipbfree.com

A great magic forum with some really helpful people. It has loads of effects exposed, even professional ones, tutorials, exposure, and links to loads more secret and free stuff.

Secrets of Magic Forum (SoMF) is the biggest education/exposure site on the net.

http://sky.prohosting.com/fizbin/athenae...

There are lots of free (legal) magic books and tricks on there. Enough to last a lifetime. It’s magicians only so don’t reveal anything to people who aren’t ;-) Loads of books with card magic of all kinds.

Also a good magic blog here:

I watched it somewhere on youtube, but I forgot what it’s called.

So, there were 3 cards, and you were supposed to think that two of them are jokers, and the last one is an Ace. There’s also a story behind this, where in the story, a person is betting a guy to find where the Ace is. And whenever he finds a joker, he owes money, he finds the Ace, he earns money.
For the trick, you just need to do some easy stuff. So while you’re doing the magic trick, you trick the spectator into thinking that the Ace is somewhere, but it isn’t.
Also, in the end, you reveal all the cards, and on the last one, the joker “changes” into a Queen (or just another random card) but I remember that the queen was already there in the first place.

Please, does anybody know something like this? (I already know about the 3 card monte, but didn’t seem like the same..)
I really want to show this neat trick to a friend.
One thousand thank-yous for the one who knows.

Book Description
Publication Date: May 1, 2012
Days before Chad Williams was to report to military duty in Great Lakes, Illinois, he turned on a television and was greeted with the horrifying images of his mentor, US Navy SEAL Scott Helvenston, being brutally murdered in a premeditated ambush on the roads of Fallujah, Iraq. Steeled in his resolve, Chad followed in Scott’s footsteps and completed the US military’s most difficult and grueling training to become a Navy SEAL. One of only 13 from a class of 173 to make it straight through to graduation, Chad served his country on SEAL Teams One and Seven for five years, completing tours of duty in the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Iraq.

Part memoir, part evangelism piece, SEAL of God follows Chad’s journey through the grueling Naval Ops training and onto the streets of Iraq, where he witnessed the horrors of war up close. Along the way, Chad shares his own radical conversion story and talks about how he draws on his own experiences as a SEAL to help others better understand the depths of Christ’s sacrifice and love.

Full Version: Justin Miller - Freedom Pack
Secrets of Magic Forum > SOMF Secrets & Tips > Props, Gimmicks and Utilities
TMuc

Hi everybody.
I thought I'd share with you Justin Miller's Freedom Pack.

So there's actually another thread about it, that didn't show up in the search function.
Here's the link: http://somfv3.com/secretforums/index.php?showtopic=5826

It's a gimmicked Cardbox that allows you to seemingly put all 52 cards into the box in a split second.
Truth is: The cards are already in the box.

Here's how you construct the gimmick.

You need to destroy one of your cardboxes and use it solely for this effect. That's a downer but on the other hand:
A deck of bikes doesn't cost that much and you can do it with any other brand of cards as long as the box has this special flap that reveals a 1/4 inch of the cards inside and allows you to grab the whole deck of cards easily.
If your box doesn't have this flap you can easily make it yourself.

Click on the thumbnail images to open a larger version.

1) Cut along the thick blue line (roughly above the middle if the back, touching the lower end of the upper circle on a rider-back case.
If you have one of these newer boxes, cut along the "can trust bicycle performance" line of text.
The cut doesn't have to be perfectly straight, but it's not bad either if it's quite straight.
Now cut along the sides of the box till you hit the front cover of the box.
DO NOT cut the front cover. Now cut along the seem between the front of the box and the sides.

The light-blue shaded part is the one that gets cut out and discarded.

2) You should end up with this (without the card on top of the box).

I'm sorry I can't show you how it looks like without the card on top, but I already made two of these, and I didn't want to make another for this reveal. I hope everything is clear non-the-less.

Now you take a card that you don't need anymore. A blank face, normal back card would be the best, but I used the guarantee joker in this case.
Put your cards (if possible put in slightly more than 52 cards in. 56-58 is perfect) in the cut-out box.
Now take your joker (or whatever card you're using), lay it on top of the box (actually it's the back of the box),
align it with the cards in the box and glue the lower half to the rest of the box.
Pay attention that the joker stays aligned with the cards in the deck.
It makes riffeling through the cards easier in the end (an easy riffle is one of the key-convincers in this effect).
Press hard on the card, while keeping it aligned perfectly. It should take 2-3 minutes for the glue to dry enough so you can out the box aside and let it dry perfectly.

Here's a close-up picture of the box with the cards inside.

Now take the box in your hand (make sure the cards is glued onto the box and doesn't move).
Fold the flap over all the way and take the box face-down in your hand (Dealers Grip).

Cover the little pieces of the cardbox that might flash under the glued-on card with the fleshy part of your thumb and your fingers.

This is how it looks from the front. Pretty convincing huh?

Now to Justin Miller's Presentation.
Have the gimmicked box in your back pocket.
Spread the deck, let Spectator select any card (or force it on them, depending on what trick you want to do).
Act as if you don't want to see their card and turn around, while they show it to everybody or sign it.
While you have your back to the audience, put the cards inside the gimmicked cardbox.
If you want to do an ACR, leave 2-3 cards on top of the box. Catch a break under those cards and out their selected card between the cards on top and the box from behind. With a large break it looks like the cards is going into the middle of the deck.
You can riffle through the cards with your left thumb. That's a nice convincer that there's in fact a deck of cards unboxed as it was before you turned your back.

Now you can say "Oh, I forgot something very important. It's a bit emberrassing, but without doing this, I can't proceed. I actually forgot to take the cards out of the box."
And with this you flip the deck 180° (your index finger is under the card box and acts as a catapult). And suddenly the card box appears around the deck.
Again: cover the sides where there's no box with your thumb and fingers and flash both sides of the box.
Take the cards out of the box without flashing, out the box away and proceed with your card magic.

Enjoy!

Just finished building this now and am waiting impatiently for the glue to dry.. I was watching the YouTube link on the other "Freedom Pack" thread that shows a version where you can show all sides of the box fully intact. Has anyone attempted building that? It looks really slick, but the handling in the video looked a little awkward. Was that just from struggling through the performance or a necessary evil with that version of the gimmick?

Here's another of Justin Miller's so called inspirations. He said it came to him as he was in a hotel room ready to nod off. Most likely seen another magician perform it at a convention and went up to his room to think of how to rip it off. I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Ambitious Card: This uses the standard gimmick as shown in the diagram. Remove two cards from the deck and place them face-down on top of the gimmick. Turn the top card face-up, hand it to a spectator and ask him/her to sign its face.

As the card is being signed, prepare the top card for the tilt move. Take back the signed card, insert it into the break and show the top card is not the selection. Perform a double lift of the top two card's, the selection has arrived on top. Turn the double face-down and remove top indifferent card and insert it into the center of the deck. Snap of the fingers and the signed selection is back on top.

Hand the selection to the spectator and as everyone is checking out the card bring attention back to the deck and say, Oh, sorry, I forgot to take the cards out of the deck. Flip the deck into the air and the cards are magically re-cased.

The flip; this is kind of tricky. Holding the deck in a light dealer's grip you will flick the hand at the wrist thus causing a slight toss of the card's and gimmick into the air. You'll have to figure the timing out but you need to push up on the bottom of the gimmick at the right moment with your forefinger. These two actions combined will cause the gimmick and card's to turn end for end giving a some what visual appearance of the case.

Brain Freeze: For this one you'll need to set-up the gimmick as follows; The gimmick is made as per the diagram, except a blue case is used with a red backed card attached to the case. You will need one blue back deck, three blue/red double backed cards and a red back card to force.

Place the blue deck into the gimmick so the face's are pointing up towards the top of the gimmick. On to this put the red force card followed by the three blue/red double back card's, red side up. Spread the cards over showing the top five red backed cards, i.e. the three double back card's, the force card and the card stuck to the gimmick. This should appear to be a casual spread so don't call attention to it.

Ok, now do a riffle force. This is the same as standard riffle force except when the spectator calls STOP! You turn your body slightly to the side as the hand that is holding the deck in dealer's grip. Right if the card's are held in right hand dealer's grip or left is the card's are held in a left hand dealer's grip.

The top four card's are held deep between the fingers (far front short end) and thumb (near rear short ends) as you lift them so it appears you have removed more card's than you actually have. Raise the card's up to briefly show the bottom card, your force card. Lower the card's down and insert them into the center of the deck.

Now, perform the flip and a blue deck appears. Remove the blue card's from the deck, spread them to show the face-up selection/prediction in the center. Turn the selection/prediction over showing it to be a red back card amongst a sea of blue backs.

Thank you, David. This is well thought out and explained. Your diagrams make it understandable. This is a nice surprising visual effect. I appreciate the time you put into presenting the explanation for us.

Hey, you all are welcome. I try to make all my tutorials as clear as possible. As a dear departed friend, George Kirkendall, would say, "If a lay person can not understand the instructions, what chance a magician will?". Glad this keeps a little change out of Justin's pocket. And be my guest learnmagictricks.org to post this on your site, unless the moderator's move it first.

Thanks for the tut! Has anyone actually used this in a real life scenario though? I kind of see this as a promo video trick or something along those lines.

I start my card routine using a gimmick which makes the cards looked boxed and I magicly vanish the box leaving the deck clean to work with. I use the freedom pack to rebox the deck at the end of my routine and then leave the group/table etc.

Hey folks i think i have a fantastic variation. It requires the gimmick of the paul harris vanishing deck. place the card on top of the deck box , so it seems as it there is a deck. then you just have to bend down the gimmick in. those who know the paul harris vanishing deck gimmick will understand

That Brainfreeze trick looked amazing. It's like the classic Brainwave taken to another level. I'll get this just for that one trick.

Here is the best part about brainfreeze..you only have to get rid of 3 gimmicked cards as the rest of the deck is ungimmicked..and its so easy because you ditch them as your putting away the ONLY red card in the blue deck, so you can go on and do any trick you want with your normal everyday deck!

It definitely looks killer, I'm not denying that at all, but it's not my kinda thing and not worth investing when you've worked it out.
If it's your thing then go for it by all means, will definitely kill lay audiences!

I was wondering if the pack has to be an old old with the back design on or if the newer (sadly less attractive) bicycle boxes can be used. I suppose my question is, does the pack you use have to have the back design on?

I love the way this looks- I'm wondering how difficult it is to "flip" the deck one handed as is shown in the demo? It looks like a very quick and solid flip shown, but does that take a special touch?

One of great qualities about Freedom pack is it is completely universal in method..yes, we have provided you with the mandolin cards (I personally will not use anything else...LUV these cards) but you do not have to, you can customize the Freedom Pack gimmick to ANY deck of cards and box.

I got it. It looks as good as the demo and is not hard to do. Also you can easily make your own gimmick from any box. Any gimmick you can make yourself at essentially no expense is worth it to me. Even if I use the trick infrequently I don’t have to worry about breaking or losing it. Hope it is not exposure to say the gimmick really has to be rung in under heavy misdirection - turning your back to have a card signed, etc (assuming you don't use as an opener). Once the gimmick is set you have limited freedom with the cards. You could not do much else other than a brief ambitious card routine. You don't have to do any routine - you could just have the signed card returned to the deck, do a few "I am clean" displays (which is really the point of the ambitious card moves) and then "box the deck." I am sure more creativity is possible but again, stating the obvious, the cards cannot be handed out with the gimmick in place. Once the box is removed obviously you are clean again. There is no reset to speak of. I have not yet looked at all of the moves described or the bonus color changing deck routine that was so highly reviewed on the Wizard review. For me this is more effective looking then a "flap card" and infinitely more practical then the "Mash Pack"

Also Got mine today thanks to Penguins super fast shipping.
I think this trick is Great!! Easy to learn, easy to do,easy to set up.I have bought 4 tricks in the last month and still havent started using them due to trying to make a gimmick or working on a routine for it or it just sucked but not Freedom Pack.
I feel its a real worker. It will be going right into my routines for strolling and I will use it in my stand up show as well.
Justin also gives a dew routines that can be used with it if you don't have something you already will use it for.
Also like the post above you don't need to buy 10 more to replace the gimmick when you wear this trick out because I can guarentee I will be wearing mine out due to using it at every show. The best part is Justin don't spend an hr teaching you how to make a new gimmick. Its on a 12 min segment to teach you have to make it in 5 min.And its also not Ill teach you how to make it in 5 min and it takes 3 days 4 trips to the store and 25 bucks to make. You can really make it up in 5 min.
The bonus trick is a really good trick you will have to set up but can end clean with a normal deck of cards.
Hope this helped.

Thank you shawn and X,
That was one of the major issues I had with effects when I was younger..great effect..complicated gimmick and had to buy it again if it got lost or broke not with Freedom Pack, universal and easy in method and replacement. and once you make your first one it will only take you about 3 minutes to make one.
YOU GUYS have made this a success and I thank you all for that.

Received mine a couple of days ago. This is really nice- once received you can do the trick right away. A little practice is needed, but not much. This is definately a workers trick- almost an instant reset. As far as the box goes- the only thing I can say is that you can customize any box to work- the minor discrepency in using the new bikes box most likely will go un-noticed. The bonus trick that comes with this "Brain Freeze" is AWESOME! I HIGHLY recommend this- this is one of my top purchases recently (and I purchase alot). Great Work JM!

So you're also a mind reader ;-) Cool, I've got it ordered from the UK as a pre Christmas present to myself. It think I deserve it. I'm looking forward to working into one of my sets.

Has anyone else managed to get it into their working set yet?

That Brainfreeze trick looked amazing. It's like the classic Brainwave taken to another level. I'll get this just for that one trick.

Here is the best part about brainfreeze..you only have to get rid of 3 gimmicked cards as the rest of the deck is ungimmicked..and its so easy because you ditch them as your putting away the ONLY red card in the blue deck, so you can go on and do any trick you want with your normal everyday deck!

One of great qualities about Freedom pack is it is completely universal in method..yes, we have provided you with the mandolin cards (I personally will not use anything else...LUV these cards) but you do not have to, you can customize the Freedom Pack gimmick to ANY deck of cards and box.
JM

Just to clarify, bicycle cards in UK now come in these boxes (see attachment) are you saying that the box, as it used to look with the mandolin back design printed on, does NOT have to be used?

It's a very cool trick but I won't be investing - seems to fry laypeople though!

So you're also a mind reader ;-) Cool, I've got it ordered from the UK as a pre Christmas present to myself. It think I deserve it. I'm looking forward to working into one of my sets.
Has anyone else managed to get it into their working set yet?

I'm pretty sure of the method - the video gives it away.
It's a very cool trick but I won't be investing - seems to fry laypeople though!

Just to clarify, bicycle cards in UK now come in these boxes (see attachment) are you saying that the box, as it used to look with the mandolin back design printed on, does NOT have to be used?

Received mine a couple of days ago. This is really nice- once received you can do the trick right away. A little practice is needed, but not much. This is definately a workers trick- almost an instant reset. As far as the box goes- the only thing I can say is that you can customize any box to work- the minor discrepency in using the new bikes box most likely will go un-noticed. The bonus trick that comes with this "Brain Freeze" is AWESOME! I HIGHLY recommend this- this is one of my top purchases recently (and I purchase alot). Great Work JM!

I love the way this looks- I'm wondering how difficult it is to "flip" the deck one handed as is shown in the demo? It looks like a very quick and solid flip shown, but does that take a special touch?
Thanks for asking,
Th flip(which is very easy) is only one of 4 ways to visually have that Freedom Pack moment I teach on the dvd.

I was wondering if the pack has to be an old old with the back design on or if the newer (sadly less attractive) bicycle boxes can be used. I suppose my question is, does the pack you use have to have the back design on?
One of great qualities about Freedom pack is it is completely universal in method..yes, we have provided you with the mandolin cards (I personally will not use anything else...LUV these cards) but you do not have to, you can customize the Freedom Pack gimmick to ANY deck of cards and box.
JM
Just to clarify, bicycle cards in UK now come in these boxes (see attachment) are you saying that the box, as it used to look with the mandolin back design printed on, does NOT have to be used?

Received mine a couple of days ago. This is really nice- once received you can do the trick right away. A little practice is needed, but not much. This is definately a workers trick- almost an instant reset. As far as the box goes- the only thing I can say is that you can customize any box to work- the minor discrepency in using the new bikes box most likely will go un-noticed. The bonus trick that comes with this "Brain Freeze" is AWESOME! I HIGHLY recommend this- this is one of my top purchases recently (and I purchase alot). Great Work JM!

So you're also a mind reader ;-) Cool, I've got it ordered from the UK as a pre Christmas present to myself. It think I deserve it. I'm looking forward to working into one of my sets.
Has anyone else managed to get it into their working set yet?

You start up your first LP in years, and within the first few comments posted on the video, the topic of discussion already involves ponies.

Bravo, internet.

I don't have anything against bronies at all like most others do, but it does indeed irritate me that we got off-topic this quickly.

For the record, I have never watched MLP:FiM as of now, so I can't say anything about what I think of it.

Try "Lesson Zero". That was the episode I randomly chose to see what all the fuss was about and it got me hooked immediately. The show is hit or miss, but there are more good episodes then bad if you can get past the premise. Good LP by the way. This is an awesome game.

About Us

I thank God in His mercy that He reached down and saved me as an eight year old boy. Shortly thereafter, God began to work in my heart about the matter of vocational Christian service. In a revival meeting at age fifteen, I surrendered to God’s divine call to be an evangelist. God has continued to confirm my call to evangelism primarily through His Word and also through years of ministering with other evangelists, evangelistic teams, various local churches, Christian Colleges, and Christian camps. I am greatly privileged to exalt the Lord Jesus Christ through this high and holy calling.

I graduated from Bob Jones University in 1996 and 1998 with both a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Bible. Kristin received her Bachelors degree in Music Education as well as a Masters degree in music composition from Bob Jones University where she also served as a dorm counselor for two years. I traveled with Minutemen Ministries conducting youth rallies nation wide for two years and have been in evangelism for another nine years independently. I served on staff at the Wilds Christian Camp for nine summers and two years full time. After finishing seminary, I married Kristin Scherbenske who is a gifted pianist, arranger, and composer. My wonderful wife, Kristin, serves alongside me as wife, homemaker, musician and mother. We have four children. Abigail is 7 years old, Alyssa is 6, Andrew is 3, and Austin is 2.

We make our home in Charlotte, North Carolina where I serve as the staff evangelist at Bible Baptist Church. Together we are excited to see God’s power not only in our marriage and family, but also in our ministry.

For Revival,

Ron DeGarde

if you know how to do it and want to show people that, then perform it yourself. You may find that you don't get the same reaction and that's because you don't know ALL of it. There's more to magic than the method.

Not that I disagree - but all the magicians spotted it, and no lay person knows what a pass is. Bit pathetic that he felt the need to point it out - but it's hardly exposure.

13:28, he says "here is the red", he put it on top of the deck, turn the desk over, fan it out. The black is the actually one on the bottom, the red is now on top of the the faced up cards. He already knew the rest are red once he turned the last black Ace and Nine by slightly look at it but however, idk how the whole trick is done but its all cool. I love it tho

Yeah, he is the kind of psychopath you don't ever really want to be anywhere near or you might lose something or end up with something you really don't want.

David Blaine has a wife so beautiful she could be a model, she is exquisite and they have a new baby. Still think he's gay or do you just make random idiotic ignorant comments because you're a total douche?

David Blaine does not have supernatural skills. Many magicians can do the tricks he does. I can, although perhaps not as well as he. Magicians don't hide that they use deception, they just use methods that are not obvious to the uninitiated.

Clearly you are deranged, and please, dazzle me with your acumen; what the fuck does supernatural abilities have to do with homosexuality? You are one scary ignorant piece of shit asshole, dude. Apparently you were born afflicted with anencephaly.

I agreed with you at first then i realised that boy sat next to me in history class at school and used to always text people under the table while he was in class, haha, small world. He ended up getting into Cambridge and being president of its union so i'm guessing that the texting isn't actually much of a distraction from what hes doing! :)
