Ordered some flash paper today and have a q or 2 as I've never used
it. Besides just using a match or lighter are there other ways to
ignite it? Will the spark from a flint device or a glowing coil (i
have a battery powered cig lighter) light it? Thanks in advance.

In all my career, I never used anything but a thumb-palmed,
lighted cigarette butt.

There are lots and lots of ways to ignite flash paper. Yes, the spark
from a lighter flint will do it, even if the lighter itself is dead.
I've built my own "Hot Books and Wallets" by incorporating a lightet
flint assembly in the device. It's safer than using a mesh pad soaked
with lighter fluid, you just can't carry something like that around in
your pocket safely. You can even safely wedge a small ball of flash
paper down inside the upper section next to the butane nozzel, again,
this is great for dead lighters with the flint assemply still working.
A flash wallet is great for restaurant stunts when it comes time to
pay the bill.

Also, a glo-plug will work great, I make my own hand flashers from
copper fipe and fittings using a glo-plug. Just be careful not to run
too much current through the glo-plug or you'll bur the hot-wire out.
Radio Shack carries a host of switches you can incorporate into the
circuit to fire it. I'm fond of the lever switch, or micro-switch as
my police bomb technician friend calls it. These switches scare the
hell out of bomb techs because they're so easy to hide, such as
beneath a blasting cap in a hidden circuit.

But back to flash paper. You can make my infamous Leary POOR MAN'S
HAND FLASHER from one of those little Champagne Party Poppers you can
find in party shops. Take out the paper streamers and insert a loosly
crumpld ball of flash paper, one or two sheets of the 2" x 3" sized
paper max. DO NOT USE INDOORS. Go outside and point this loaded
device up in the air. Pull the string, POW!!! an impressive ball of
fire will shoot out of the party popper.

Similar to the above is the pull-string firework, also found in party
supply stores. This is a tiny firecracker with string sticking out of
each side. When the strings are pulled the firecracker explodes. You
can wrap a sheet of 2" x 3" flash paper around the firecracker, twist
the ends to encase the firecracker within the flash paper. Now, tie
the ends of the strings into loops. Loop one around the middle finger
of your right hand, place the rest up yor right sleeve. Whenever you
want to produce a ball of fire between your hands, loop the left
middle finger through the loop sticing out of your sleeve and pull the
whole think out. With the device safely out of your sleeve and away
from your body pull the strings sharply. The firecracker will explode
and at the same instant ignite the flash paper. A nice flash of fire
and loud pop will be produced. If you want you can cut the white
strings and tie on clear fishing line close to the ends of the
firecracker, this makes it a bit ore invisible and may keep others
(magicians) from being able to see how it's done and reproducing your
trick.

You can wrap a small piece of flash paper around a paper match with
the match head exposed. Put the match book in your right fingers,
striker side up. Now lay the prepared match on the match book so the
head rests on the striker. Pinch it there with the thumb of the same
hand. Now, using only one hand, sharply fling the match forward and
away from you. The match head and flash paper will ignite into a ball
of fire. DO NOT USE INDOORS, often the match will stay lit when it
hits the ground so be careful where you fling this thing. I carry two
or three of these prepared flash paper and match gimmicks pinched
beneath a rubber band encircling a match book, always ready to
perform. I can fling one right after another because the match heads
are aligned with and resting close to or on the striker. These
devices are also great for tossing at pissed off dogs if you take
walks around town, so it the party popper device.

Another quick trick is to glue a match head from a book of paper
matches to the corner of a 2" x 3" piece of flash paper. To another
corner glue a piece of striker. Ball up the flash paper in such a way
as to bring the match head and striker together. Conceal the device
in your hand or in a clip under your coat, etc. When you want to
perform simply rub the striker and match head together as you throw it
away from your body. It's a nice ball of fire that seems to have come
from nowhere.

THE ABOVE IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. THE AUTHOR IS NOT
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE USE OR MIS-USE OF INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS
POST. DO NOT USE ANY OF THESE DEVICES INDOORS OR NEAR ANY STRUCTURE
OR HUMANS. ALWAYS HAVE TWO FULLY CHARGED FIRE EXTINGUISHERS NEARBY.
THIS IS OBVIOUS TO MOST, BUT ALWAYS POINT THEE DEVICES AWAY FROM
PEOPLE.
