I'm working out an effect (I'm sure it's not original) where a napkin is
placed over a cup of ice, and my hands on the napkin. I remove my hands and
the napkin to reveal the glass has filled with a beverage. Any glass or cup
and any table. The method I'm using is airliner tube up sleeve of arm to
bladder of some sort (balloon?) filled with the liquid. The bladder is
placed under arm and when squeezed should empty the liquid in to the cup via
the tube (extending out under hand at wrist). That's the basics.. my
challenges are: Is there a better way (existing) to do this and/or what
would work best to hold the liquid securely besides baloon and any way to
control the flow better without much movement? Thanks for any help my
friends...

That's a very Anverdi way to do it. Try the Eugene Burger method
from Gourmet Burger. It's a lot more sure and less likely to spill.

I really appreciate your ingenuity, you're a thinker and creativity
will take you far in magic if you stay with it.

There are several ways accomplish the effect. There are even trick
glasses on the market (in magic shops) that perform the trick for
you. Not enough room here to explain them here.

One of my favorites is Abbott's GIZMO GLASS. It's a wine glass that
can either be full or empty in a split second.

It's a wine glass with a small hole in the bottom (kinda to one side
of the stem). Connected to this hole is a ear syringe (rubber squeeze
bulb) which is full of wine. You hold the glass by the stem, the bulb
secretly rests in your hand. It simply looks like you're holding a
wine glass.

By squeezing the bulb the glass fills with wine. When you release the
bulb the wine is sucked back into the bulb and the glass appears empty.

Quite ingenious.

You can make one of these easily. Get some of those plastic party
wine glasses sold in liquor and drug stores. Heat up the tip of a
nail and burn a small hole in the bottom of the plastic glass (forget
trying to drill it, burn it).

At the drugstore also get a ear syringe, if you have small hands then
get a babies ear syringe. Glue the tip of it to the hole in the wine
glass and you're in business.

This is such a cool gimmick you'll almost want to show them how it
works.

I remember an effect about a shot in your pocket. I don't recall the
name but you basically reached your pocket and pulled out a shot of what
ever type of liquid you wanted. You might be able to modify this for
you effect.

This reminds me of an act I saw on television once, it's stuck in my
mind for years.

This guy was the coolest dude since John Shaft. He walked out on
stage, pulls over a stool by the mic stand and proceeds to pull a
highball glass full of a drink out of his front pocket. then he
reaches into is coat and pulls out a fully lit cigarette, ashtray
too. He uses the stool as a makeshift table. He mayhave pulled ut a
lit candle, I don't remember, but it would fit right nto what he was
doing.

The audience is rolling with laughter at this guy. It was an act like
no other I've ever seen.

He didn't do magic, but he certainly used magicians methods to produce
the items. A rubber dam or a rubber ball over the mouth of the glass
in his pocket, popped off right before the drink is brought out. A
cigarette tank for the lit cigarette. I collect cigarette magic and
have tanks that will hold up to 8 lit cigs. The lit candle from
pocket s one of my all time favorite effects, OH how I love that
trick!!! Aside from the half dozen dealer tricks I've invented many
of my own methods for performing the trick.

I've never seen this performer/comedian again, but I'll never forget
his act.

Yes, a mirror glass will work. just make sure the mirror divider is
sealed so the liquid stays on one side.

There are what are called "sealed glasses". I used to have an old
German one and it was a gem. These are totally self-contained, the
one I had was completely sealed up.

Here's how it worked, and it was ingenious. You show a glass almost
full of colored liquid. You do your thing where you pour it into a
funnel and it appears to empty out. When the glass is tilted upright
you see only a small amount of liquid in the bottom.

In reality that's all the liquid that is required to fill the glass.
There is a clear cylinder inside the glass and when it pushes down on
the liquid, the liquid comes up the sides all around it and the glass
appears to be full.

It's all in how the glass is tilted as to how this cylinder displaces
the liquid, making it appea full or practically empty.

This principle is used in a few other liquid tricks too.

There is one where you draw a big barrel on a large sketch pad in
front of the audience. You then shove a spout into this pseudo-barrel
and begin to pour a couple glasses of beer...to the brim!

Now get this: there is NO external tubing or anything delivering the
liquid to the sketch pad. And you start with glasses that are
COMPLETELY EMPTY!!!

All the liquid you need is inside the spout. "How Uncle Mitch, how in
the hell can the magician fill up two or three glasses with a small
amount of liquid???"

Here's how:

Inside each of the glasses is another glass, slightly smaller, but
turned MOUTH SIDE DOWN. The mouth is epoxied to the bottom of the
glass.

Now, when a small amount of liquid is poured into one of these trick
glasses is fills up very quickly as there is almost no room inside it.

You could fill up two or three beer mugs with not much more than a
Dixie cup full of liquid.

And thus concludes Leary's Lecture on Liquid Displacement.
You too can learn all this cool stuff if you read enough magic books,
especially the old ones that most of the new guys consider useless
because they're old and couldn't possibly contain anything of value.

And you might consider a good book on applied science and physics.
They even have them in cartoon format these days. Just the thing for
short attention spans.

my bad, I forgot to mention! I always buy the mirror glass with the
glass that has designs or faux crystal, that way when you can seal the
mirror with clear caulk and it is not noticible
