Pavel's Super Walking Knot. Price $200.oo US

A 20' piece of rope is tied between two chairs. Magician takes a pair
od scissors and asks someone in the audience where to cut. The rope is
cut and tied into a knot. The know is now slid to another location on
the rope and untied. If you want to take a look at this most mavelous
rope, here's the e-Bay number:

Pavel's Super Walking Knot
e-Bay #6113289010

THE SECRET:

Most magicians who have owned gaffed rope believe there are rope
magnets throughout the rope. Not so with Pavel's rope, and thus the
$200.oo+ price tag. The secret to this rope is that every few inches
there are SNAP FASTENERS, the same kind used in clothing.

Now, before you say "I could make one of those." Everybody, and I mean
EVERYBODY who tries ends up with a rope that looks like hell. Go look
at the rope on e-Bay, there's a picture of it. It looks like a piece
of rope. Now that you know the secret you can spot a couple of the
well hidden connections if you look very closely.

Pavel also puts out a Walking Knot Jr. With this rope there are only 3
snap faseners throughout the rope. It sells for a little less.

The guys over in the Genii forum are trying to figure out how this prop
works. Send them over here for the answer. If I posted the secret
Kaufman would figure me out and cut off my access.

Exactly the same, also maybe known as press studs, found on the back of
some blouses etc.

I'm sure at one time or another you've had clothing, usually a button
up shirt, that used snap fasterers. There are many different kinds,
but they are all basically a two metal buttons, a male and a female,
that snap together. Here's a website:

Kind of a shame that you gave that one away. What is more interesting is
that there are at least 4 solutions, completely different, to that effect.
3 of which were sold commercially including the method performed by Doug
Henning live on one of his early specials. One was published in Genii that
required no apparatus shortly after the DH special. I like the DH method
the most since the helper from the audience goes home with the rope.
Unfortunately it requires two highly trained assistants.

How many times do I have to tell you people, I am NOT, nor have I ever
been, a magician. I am Mitch Leary, custodian of the arcane and law
unto himself! I possess two storage lockers and one basement (where I
reside) full of everything from a ball vase to a zig-zag. Magic
dealers know full well who I am yet continue to sell me these secrets,
all I have to do is pull out my Mastercard. If what I do irritates
you, too bad. I answer to NO ONE! And I've been thinking real
seriously of getting back into the business of posting secrets right
here in this group. It's what made me infamous to begin with, and this
group needs livening up.

If you post using a false name, how do they know who they are selling to?

I seriously doubt if anyone has ever heard my name in magic except a few
friends. Mitch Leary may or may not be my real name. Its the way I
like to keep it, I'm a very private person. No one even knows what I
look like as with most of the people on the net.
"Mitch Leary" is a character in a Clint Eastwood movie.

It's this assumption, that it's not my real name, that keeps me under
the radar. If you want to hide something, paint it red and put it
right in front of them. And even if they were to stop selling me
secrets, it's a tad too late.

You're refering to the John Malkovich character from the movie "In the
Line of Fire". I'm much smarter than that guy, and on levels the
authorities haven't even begun to think about or they would have nailed
my nuts to my forehead a long time ago. I do get the feeling they
follow my posts on the internet.

Am I bragging? Well, I always figured, it's not really bragging if you
can do it.

David Williamson uses the snap fasteners in his Restored & Cut Rope Routine
on his Steven's Emprorium tape. And this IS alt.magic.secrets. And magic
secrets are available to anybody who pays for them, not just magicians. Like
magicians are a secret society, duh. And magic has been exposed to the
public ever since there was magic. It hasn't killed the art form yet.

I believe the creators of something like the Pavel's Walking Knot shouldn't
be ripped off, but I doubt a very convincing rope could be made by the
inexperienced. Besides, Mitch didn't detail the actual handling. Well not
yet. Entertaining with the thing is the REAL secret and nobody can expose
that.

I believe thumb tips and thread reels and double-face cards are kinds of
fetish objects for a lot of so-called magicians. They think that these
plastic gim-gaws are what magic is all about, and God forbid their Aunt
Tilley or the kids on the block or the girls at the bar find out about them.
Has nothing to do with being a good entertainer.
