In a show review from The Washington Post from 1985, it sayd that David
Copperfield performed a "very impressive illusion where he seemed to melt
through a welded steel wall".

I have never seen him perform this illusion on tour or in any of his
television specials. It is, however, mentioned in his 1988 tour
program.

Has anyone ever seen this illusion? I would appreciate it if you could
mail me any information, preferable a description of the effect, style of
performance and music, etc. at:

I saw Copperfield perform this several years ago in Jackson,
Mississippi...probably around '88 although I don't remember exactly. It was
performed EXACTLY like the walking through the Great Wall of China illusion
including the music, heart monitor, etc. It was actually VERY impressive.

I saw him do this in Rochester, NY years ago. If you saw the Great Wall
special, it was the same effect. Lights, stairs, heart monitor, the
works. It looked great. He had people in the audience check the wall
for openings, trap doors, etc. beforehand.

Yes, it was the Great Wall effect. Houdini's routine was similar, but
performed differently. His brick wall was built on a small enclosed
platform with a small curtain on each side, allowing him to go under the
wall. DC's wall was on an open platform where you could see all around
it. The method he used was the same as the Great Wall.

impromptu trick for some Chinese children.

The steel wall illusion uses a completely different principle than what
was used in Houdini's Walking through a Brick Wall. However the
principle used is similar to what David is using on his current tour
where he disappears into a giant fan. The shadow box used in the giant
fan illusion is the same as the one used in his steel wall illusion. In
fact, if you were to imagine the giant fan as a steel wall, you would
get a good idea on how that illusion looked like except with the giant
fan he disappears, while with the wall he is seen coming through the
wall into another shadow box placed on the other side.

yep at Chrysler hall in Norfolk Virghinia 1980s he walked through a steel wall to explain how its gonna look at The Great Wall of China:) ps bob scofield brought me to david seth kotkin Christian illusionist magician shows just about every year then later on the stores too:) and my friend matt galoway in his parents then next year matt galllway went with me and my friends:) and matt galloways parents as we cam out sidematt dad singeld us by flash light like a copperfield show idea cool:) and next time my older cool nephew went with us :)

Fort Mohave, AZ. Ambient light is not strong here. Dark desert near the Colorado River. I use a reflector telescope to view the moon, and I’ve noticed that when ‘you guys’ use your video cameras --- the moon is orange tinted. My telescope shows the moon is pink / tan / even blue tinted, with a tendency to appear white washed in glare, etc. Anyway, to me it looks like your camera might be losing sight of the moon because it is affected by ambient light (differently than my reflector telescope).??

Dust in the atmosphere may have caused it to disappear. As the moon descends, we look through deeper fog horizontal to surface. It is common to see sun disappear far above the horizon hours after dust storms. I think the moon would not disappear in clear sky during rainy season because dust is settled.

There is more atmosphere that you are viewing the moon or sun through when it's rising or setting. And if there are particles in the air such as smog that can actually make the moon "disappear". Also, in that setting, with the grey twilight sky you wouldnt be able to see clouds on the horizon, and chances are that's whats blocking the moon. People, who who made this video, want to see something so bad, they actually see it, and deny and plausible facts.

There could be clouds 1,000's of miles away on the horizon, and they won't look white. You won't see them at all. I have seen this before when I was out at sea many times. I will have to send you some pics I just took of the supermoon. I took two pictures in the same minute at the same angle. Somehow the crater Tycho in the southern hemisphere wildly changes from a position of 4:30 to a position of 6:30. If the moon travels across the sky over a period of time the face appears to tilt to the right- but this was in the same minute. Impossible!

You know, This is the first time I have come across something like this since I last saw something of the same sorts happen.

The moon was oddly red, It look like it was a red dot moving in circles in the sky. I was unaware that it was the moon.

After a few minutes of watching, it appeared in a quarter crescent. I saw no clouds, was pitch black out, and blah blah. But thing is it looked unnatural and was kind of creepy. But, After a while I just shrugged it off as clouds. But I am stillbaffle

Moon is low on the Horizon and as such visibly could be impaired by all Chemtrail particulates floating in the atmosphere. At dusk the chemtrail particulates would not be visible and a large amount of them could just be sweeping by your view at this precise time. If moon was higher in the sky or different lighting conditions then this effect may not occur.

ok go out in the day and look at the horizon on a sunny clear day.....what do u see??? a murky band, kinda like haze, some people have noticed this more and more, could be the chemicals being sprayed into the atmosphere that cause this

so what i am saying is that this hazey band is blocking the light being relfected off the sun that we see.....would you entertain this idea? maybe some analysis on the haze we now seem to have!!

If you look at my page I have a video of the moon disappearing, but differently than these 2 because mine shows lines across the crescent moon that are completely black, too black to be clouds or even chemtrails in front of moon....but chemtrails blocking the sun causing "mirror" reaction on moon is an idea that could make what I saw & recorded easier to understand. Now figure out chemtrails & I'll be able to sleep at night! Ha!

I think we need to remember that the earth's axis has 2 unique properties; 1. The tilted axis is relation to the ecliptic plane. 2. The gradual wobble(shift) of the axis aka the precession of the equinoxes, this cycle is nearing completion now too.

Just an idea but it could be the earth's wobble which creates this effect, every 20-something thousand years the earth completes a cycle where the angle of our orbit shift and the poles shift and so on. The earth is going through some big changes right now and I think this eclipse like phenomena could be the earth coming between the sun and moon but on a different angle due to the axis shift.

The moon does not have it's own light, we see it cause the sun is there to light it. All I see in this video is the earth blocking the light from the sun and the moon moving on it's orbit. This is nothing new or weird. And for those worried about the sun playing tricks to your compasses, the earth has something called magnetic field, and it suffers polar shifts from time to time.

Wow great footage! It looks like someone turning off a light using a dimmer switch! I've been seeing so many things it is rediculous. A green fireball a couple of weeks ago, more falling stars than I have ever seen in my whole life. A rediculous amount. I saw a UFO shooting straight up and disapearing, Stars that appear then disappear and then appear again. Crazy stuff happening on so many levels lately. Nothing moving in front of the moon in your vid, it literally looks like it evaporates!

I agree with "InfavousMobz", the idea that something is passing between the sun and the moon blocking illumination, and if it weren't for the earth, the moon wouldn't have visuals to it's phases, as it would stay always lighted. Any interference is indicative with sun rays being blocked and/or crossed. Does anyone know, if it's holographic, if one than one moon is being displayed at diff parts of the world? Just wondering if it could be part of a testing prgm.

I have seen this many times. Not a mystery at all. Thick or even moderate smog can make that happen and you cannot see smog at night or often before the sun's rays come up enough to actually begin illuminating it...or maybe David Copperfield is just practicing.

I am not going crazy then! I looked at some houses (about 4km away) through my binoks, got them in focus, I then decided to have a look at the moon, I obviously expected to have to adjust the focus to a more distant object, when I turned the focus, the moon went FURTHER out of focus.. Did a few more tests, conclusion: according to the focus on my binoks, the moon is closer than than 4 km from me. Would be interested to see if anybody else experiences the same thing.. Freaked me out!

I have a few theories.

1. Another object (ufo, space rock, etc ) in the sky is blocking the Sun on the Moon. It would have to be incredibly large.

2. It is as you said, a Bluebeam projection either of the Moon or onto the Moon.

3. There is a holographic field being projected around the entire earth (or parts of it) which blocks out (or simulates) certain phenomenon. What we saw may be a screen fade or a reset.

These are just theories though.

To Me....it looks like it is the top corner of a rain cloud or thunder head out many mikes past the 10 mile curvature blending in with the color of the sky.......

that would also explain why the moon Slowly Disappears as clouds move across it in video.....

I have seen that type of sky many times on boat heading out inlet before sun comes up in Atlantic ocean....Sea, Clouds and Sky all blend together at horizon before suns rays light clouds.......Just A Guess???

I don't agree that the moon is hollow. the Vacuum of space would pull apart a non solid object. As far as the dissapearing act goes, it could be very high altitude cloud which cannot really be seen from the ground especially at night (ice crystals) or it could be a low level layer of pollution, or even a mixture of both.There really is no way the moon can disappear. I know about bluebeam but there have been cave paintings of the moon and bluebeam was not around then.

the moon is very much hollow, which is why when it was landed on it sounded like a bell............this is coming straight from the astronauts themselves. Besides Earth, the Moon is the only planetary body with a seismic observation network in place. Analysis of lunar seismic data tells us the thickness of the crust approx (45 km) and mantle, as well as the core radius (350 km). It's effect on earth tides surely proves that a dense object is responsible for gravitational pull, not a hollow sphere? you can see huge impact craters on the moons surface If the moon was hollow, whatever hit it would go right through.

If this theory is correct, you would perceive it as white slowly changing color, eliminating blue, green, other colors and the last visible color is red. Then there is infrared, which we can see. I would try to use infracamera to check the theory. It should be there at least for some time after visibly dissapearing.

I might have an explanation. In physics we were told that due to the curvature of the earth, it is possible to see sun rises and sunsets approximately hour before/after it actually rises/sets above the horizon. The visual position of the sun is therefore different than we actually see it. Also this effect explains why sun is red at this time, because lower frequency (= visibly red) can easily bend around the atmosphere. Same should apply to other objects, such a moon.

I seen this as well when it was dissapearing, I took many pictures of it with my iPhone 4 as I was pulling out from a gas station. It looked really cool so I thought I would snap some photos. I looked at the moon, snapped a shot, looked to the right to see if my way was clear to pull out, and then I looked back and the moon was half gone! I then watched it dissapear in a matter of seconds! Really wierd!

Is Totally normal. The Moon rises around the same time as the sun sets when its full moon. The rest of the time its different every cycle. Solar eclipse is the moon getting in front of the sun and that happens every once in a while.

The atmosphere bend light. As the object like the sun or moon go down the horizon the more distortion it creates. Closer to the horizon the sun or moon has to pass through more and more of the atmosphere. It looks bigger and more yellow orange. It also allow us to see it when it is physically below the horizon but through refraction.

I am curious to get more info. How long was the Moon "invisible"? Has anyone checked the JPL to see if something was between us and the moon? The moon reflects its light from our SUN, correct? If solely the Sun's reflection, 2 ideas.. One that something passed in front of the Sun, or Two, A CME shaded it? IDK, just throwing out some thoughts. ~Peace~

Don't know, but I can speculate.

NASA sent up a delta rocket recently, to study the moon, why now, and where is the moon. Probably has something to do with morons. The powers that be morons.

all things will be revealed and I must concur, they are being revealed.

Fort Mohave, AZ. Ambient light is not strong here. Dark desert near the Colorado River. I use a reflector telescope to view the moon, and I’ve noticed that when ‘you guys’ use your video cameras --- the moon is orange tinted. My telescope shows the moon is pink / tan / even blue tinted, with a tendency to appear white washed in glare, etc. Anyway, to me it looks like your camera might be losing sight of the moon because it is affected by ambient light (differently than my reflector telescope).??

Dust in the atmosphere may have caused it to disappear. As the moon descends, we look through deeper fog horizontal to surface. It is common to see sun disappear far above the horizon hours after dust storms. I think the moon would not disappear in clear sky during rainy season because dust is settled.

The moon disappeared here the other night. I took a pic of it about 9.15pm, then when I looked again at 9.45 it was gone. I kept a look out but it didn't come back. It was on the 14th I think, I'm in Stoke-on-Trent in England.

There is more atmosphere that you are viewing the moon or sun through when it's rising or setting. And if there are particles in the air such as smog that can actually make the moon "disappear". Also, in that setting, with the grey twilight sky you wouldnt be able to see clouds on the horizon, and chances are that's whats blocking the moon. People, who who made this video, want to see something so bad, they actually see it, and deny and plausible facts.

Do you have any video of the Moon disappearing higher in the sky. Just because you don't see any clouds, means nothing. There could be clouds 1,000's of miles away on the horizon, and they won't look white. You won't see them at all. I have seen this before when I was out at sea many times. Actually a lot of people have seen this. But no one has seen it happen high in the sky.

I will have to send you some pics I just took of the supermoon. I took two pictures in the same minute at the same angle. Somehow the crater Tycho in the southern hemisphere wildly changes from a position of 4:30 to a position of 6:30. If the moon travels across the sky over a period of time the face appears to tilt to the right- but this was in the same minute. Impossible!

You know, This is the first time I have come across something like this since I last saw something of the same sorts happen.
The moon was oddly red, It look like it was a red dot moving in circles in the sky. I was unaware that it was the moon.
After a few minutes of watching, it appeared in a quarter crescent. I saw no clouds, was pitch black out, and blah blah. But thing is it looked unnatural and was kind of creepy. But, After a while I just shrugged it off as clouds. But I am stillbaffle

Moon is low on the Horizon and as such visibly could be impaired by all Chemtrail particulates floating in the atmosphere. At dusk the chemtrail particulates would not be visible and a large amount of them could just be sweeping by your view at this precise time. If moon was higher in the sky or different lighting conditions then this effect may not occur.

If you look at my page I have a video of the moon disappearing, but differently than these 2 because mine shows lines across the crescent moon that are completely black, too black to be clouds or even chemtrails in front of moon....but chemtrails blocking the sun causing "mirror" reaction on moon is an idea that could make what I saw & recorded easier to understand. Now figure out chemtrails & I'll be able to sleep at night! Ha!

I think we need to remember that the earth's axis has 2 unique properties; 1. The tilted axis is relation to the ecliptic plane. 2. The gradual wobble(shift) of the axis aka the precession of the equinoxes, this cycle is nearing completion now too.

Just an idea but it could be the earth's wobble which creates this effect, every 20-something thousand years the earth completes a cycle where the angle of our orbit shift and the poles shift and so on. The earth is going through some big changes right now and I think this eclipse like phenomena could be the earth coming between the sun and moon but on a different angle due to the axis shift.

The moon does not have it's own light, we see it cause the sun is there to light it. All I see in this video is the earth blocking the light from the sun and the moon moving on it's orbit. This is nothing new or weird. And for those worried about the sun playing tricks to your compasses, the earth has something called magnetic field, and it suffers polar shifts from time to time.

Wow great footage! It looks like someone turning off a light using a dimmer switch! I've been seeing so many things it is rediculous. A green fireball a couple of weeks ago, more falling stars than I have ever seen in my whole life. A rediculous amount. I saw a UFO shooting straight up and disapearing, Stars that appear then disappear and then appear again. Crazy stuff happening on so many levels lately. Nothing moving in front of the moon in your vid, it literally looks like it evaporates!

I agree with "InfavousMobz", the idea that something is passing between the sun and the moon blocking illumination, and if it weren't for the earth, the moon wouldn't have visuals to it's phases, as it would stay always lighted. Any interference is indicative with sun rays being blocked and/or crossed. Does anyone know, if it's holographic, if one than one moon is being displayed at diff parts of the world? Just wondering if it could be part of a testing prgm.

I have seen this many times. Not a mystery at all. Thick or even moderate smog can make that happen and you cannot see smog at night or often before the sun's rays come up enough to actually begin illuminating it...or maybe David Copperfield is just practicing.

I am not going crazy then! I looked at some houses (about 4km away) through my binoks, got them in focus, I then decided to have a look at the moon, I obviously expected to have to adjust the focus to a more distant object, when I turned the focus, the moon went FURTHER out of focus.. Did a few more tests, conclusion: according to the focus on my binoks, the moon is closer than than 4 km from me. Would be interested to see if anybody else experiences the same thing.. Freaked me out!

I have a few theories.
1. Another object (ufo, space rock, etc ) in the sky is blocking the Sun on the Moon. It would have to be incredibly large.
2. It is as you said, a Bluebeam projection either of the Moon or onto the Moon.
3. There is a holographic field being projected around the entire earth (or parts of it) which blocks out (or simulates) certain phenomenon. What we saw may be a screen fade or a reset.
These are just theories though.

To Me....it looks like it is the top corner of a rain cloud or thunder head out many mikes past the 10 mile curvature blending in with the color of the sky.......
that would also explain why the moon Slowly Disappears as clouds move across it in video.....
I have seen that type of sky many times on boat heading out inlet before sun comes up in Atlantic ocean....Sea, Clouds and Sky all blend together at horizon before suns rays light clouds.......Just A Guess???

I don't agree that the moon is hollow. the Vacuum of space would pull apart a non solid object. As far as the dissapearing act goes, it could be very high altitude cloud which cannot really be seen from the ground especially at night (ice crystals) or it could be a low level layer of pollution, or even a mixture of both.There really is no way the moon can disappear. I know about bluebeam but there have been cave paintings of the moon and bluebeam was not around then.

the moon is very much hollow, which is why when it was landed on it sounded like a bell............this is coming straight from the astronauts themselves. Your theory that the vacuum of space would pull apart a non solid object has no validity, it doesn't make the moon any lighter if its hollow, u might wanna do a little more research about it first. You don't have to take my word for it!!!

Besides Earth, the Moon is the only planetary body with a seismic observation network in place. Analysis of lunar seismic data tells us the thickness of the crust approx (45 km) and mantle, as well as the core radius (350 km). It's effect on earth tides surely proves that a dense object is responsible for gravitational pull, not a hollow sphere? you can see huge impact craters on the moons surface If the moon was hollow, whatever hit it would go right through.

Very ignorant ? of what ? The moon is still there and does not disapear only could something cover it in our atmosphere. What is absurd to my comment ? Nothing, its plain english and for all to understand. I not made it up that the moon disapeared cause it can't and thats a fact. im not sure about the holo moon theory but somethings definatley going on maybe its the other way round, were projecting something onto the sky to make something invisible. there may be a massive ufo that went in front of the moon, fuck knows has anyone been tracking the trajectory of the moon recently it may have changed.

If this theory is correct, you would perceive it as white slowly changing color, eliminating blue, green, other colors and the last visible color is red. Then there is infrared, which we can see. I would try to use infracamera to check the theory. It should be there at least for some time after visibly dissapearing.

I might have an explanation. In physics we were told that due to the curvature of the earth, it is possible to see sun rises and sunsets approximately hour before/after it actually rises/sets above the horizon. The visual position of the sun is therefore different than we actually see it. Also this effect explains why sun is red at this time, because lower frequency (= visibly red) can easily bend around the atmosphere. Same should apply to other objects, such a moon.

smog, residue from fires burning miles and miles away, many things could account for this without suspecting some great Conspiracy. The fact that the moon "disapears" from left to right tells us that it is not a 'hologram' but that something is passing in front of it.

I seen this as well when it was dissapearing, I took many pictures of it with my iPhone 4 as I was pulling out from a gas station. It looked really cool so I thought I would snap some photos. I looked at the moon, snapped a shot, looked to the right to see if my way was clear to pull out, and then I looked back and the moon was half gone! I then watched it dissapear in a matter of seconds! Really wierd!

Cloud cover was my first thought, who knows??????? But I saw the moon (it was at half) one morning at about ten a.m.. It was just to the right of the sun but there it was. What's with that? I don't remember ever seeing the moon that clearly so close to the sun in the morning. Something is amiss.

Is Totally normal. The Moon rises around the same time as the sun sets when its full moon. The rest of the time its different every cycle. Solar eclipse is the moon getting in front of the sun and that happens every once in a while.

The atmosphere bend light. As the object like the sun or moon go down the horizon the more distortion it creates. Closer to the horizon the sun or moon has to pass through more and more of the atmosphere. It looks bigger and more yellow orange. It also allow us to see it when it is physically below the horizon but through refraction.

If something is in front of the sun it cast a shadow right? Also the alignment date is for Sept 26 or 27. This is when it will be directly in front of the sun. November date is when it is closest to earth. God bless you!

I am curious to get more info. How long was the Moon "invisible"? Has anyone checked the JPL to see if something was between us and the moon? The moon reflects its light from our SUN, correct? NASA sent up a delta rocket recently, to study the moon, why now, and where is the moon. Probably has something to do with morons. The powers that be morons.

this song will always remind me of my childhood. A time when things were simple and clear, and I knew exactly who I was, who my family and friends were, and understood the world. A time when the world seemed to be filled with beauty and hope. When movies like E.T. touched and inspired people.

These days movies seem to be only about sex, violence, and special effects, no heart involved at all. And the world seems to be the same way. We lost something the past 30 years. Will we ever get it back?

I cry buddy. I miss my friends and I miss my home and both are gone forever. Back when this came out I thought it was just a great pop song but now I think it's even more beautiful. I can't listen to it without breaking my heart every time I hear it. "A friend is someone you need" and "Home's the most excellent place of all". Neil Diamond may have had many bigger hits here in the UK but surely never one more poignant.
