impressed at seeing Mr Blaneys walk through sawing in half effect and
having done a search for a thread on this effect here on SOMF and not
having found the item,i thought i would post a link to this very
impresive levitation effect.
also looking forward to receiving a copy of the encyclopedia of
levitations and suspensions by S H Sharpe which i have been after for
a while.will let people know what its like when i get it.
what do people think of this suspension which has been used by many
top perfomers

Didn’t really watch the clip yet, but in my amateur opinion, the
ladder suspension is far superior to the chair suspension…
we had a discussion about this in another thread about the chair
suspension…
the chair suspension stops with a support remaining under one end of
the person (also in the broom suspension), so TO ME, it’s kind of
obvious how it’s done….
the ladder suspension goes that far, and just when the spec thinks he
knows that the one ladder is holding up the person, it goes a step
further and the magi swivels the ladder out from under the other end
of the board, totally blowing away the only possible solution to the
effect….
It’s almost a sucker trick where the spec thinks they know the answer,
and then you throw in another twist and the specs brain is left
hanging in mid-air (pun intended)….
I’ll watch the clip after I get to a computer that has the capability
(I’m on a workstation right now), so I can make some real comments on
the specific performance…
If it’s the Blaney clip I’m thinking of, it’s on the old Johnny Carson
show….
Johnny loved the magicians (except for Uri Gellar), being one
himself…

OK, watched it… and my reaction is:
OH MY! That IS impressive!
Notice how he almost nonchalantly moves his props around…. like there
is no deliberate placing of the supports….
He just does it, with no tricky “precise” placements of anything….
Until watching this, I was pretty sure how this is done, but he
handles those ladders so carelessly that I now have my doubts… it
certainly offers the “what the …???” reaction when you watch it…
I’m assuming the hoop is “special” too…
If I am ever at the stage of doing shows (I’m working to get there!)
and I’m looking for a suspension, then I’m definitely skipping right
over the chair suspension and shooting for this….

yes great illusion,he is so nonchalant with his handling.doesnt have
the DC "big" style big music presentation with it.it is like you say-
guesss how thia is done and then as you think you know he removes that
"possibility"
on his website he has the levitation where to a magician interested
trained eye the workings of how the nonchalance can be understood can
be seen but not easily.the lovely swirls suggest how it flows so
beautifully and why it is so good and so expensive.

just got it myself-some nice historical effects in there and also
basics of some of the more modern day effects.
i haven't heard of the new book with the added content you mention-

I try to make a list for myself what stage illusions use mirrors.
Could you list some?

important words such as I T (invisible thread)? If not then you guys
should make one topic somewhere. Example I read sometimes IMHO and I

There is also the Sword Cabinet, head on a sword illusion, and the
living half body.
Another illusion which a mirror plays an important role is the Origami
illusion.
Those are just a few illusions with mirrors, I am sure there are lots
more to come.

the means to achieve the effect.. in other words, the audience is not

to act as a device to make the folded box appear smaller and to show

Many platform vanishes use a mirror (or mirrors) beneath...
The silk caddy....
there are many mirror penetration effects such as Howie Schwarzman's
silk thru mirror... but again, this is not an effect where the mirror
is a secret element...

Thanks guys. Yes you right QED I'm looking illusions when they hide
the mirrors but I need the illusions name either. You might remember
example when the M. M. made the elephant disappear. Or the Million
Dollar Mystery etc. Keep them comming.

HAD TO DO somthing im back try again:)

lucky i have that special on tape and now trans fored on to dvd disc i

basics of some of the more modern day effects.
i haven't heard of the new book with the added content you mention-

I try to make a list for myself what stage illusions use mirrors.
Could you list some?

important words such as I T (invisible thread)? If not then you guys
should make one topic somewhere. Example I read sometimes IMHO and I
have no idea what is that mean.

There is also the Sword Cabinet, head on a sword illusion, and the
living half body.
Another illusion which a mirror plays an important role is the Origami
illusion.
Those are just a few illusions with mirrors, I am sure there are lots
more to come.
What ever it is... I didn't do it.

I think what Porter was asking about was illusions that use mirrors as
the means to achieve the effect.. in other words, the audience is not
aware of the mirror's prescence, it is there to hide something behind
it and it reflects an image that appears to be behind the item that is
being hidden...
in Origami, the mirror is obvious to the audience... is there merely
to act as a device to make the folded box appear smaller and to show
to the audience that the box jumper did not "go out of the back" of
the box... it is not the mechanism which causes the effect to occur
although it does contribute to the overall effect...
Twister uses the angled mirror principles
Many platform vanishes use a mirror (or mirrors) beneath...
The silk caddy....
there are many mirror penetration effects such as Howie Schwarzman's
silk thru mirror... but again, this is not an effect where the mirror
is a secret element...

Thanks guys. Yes you right QED I'm looking illusions when they hide
the mirrors but I need the illusions name either. You might remember
example when the M. M. made the elephant disappear. Or the Million
Dollar Mystery etc. Keep them comming.

when i didnt know about mirror tunnels i thought it was vvanished

understand how they work:) so i look for those square mirror tunnels
